What do you do or think when you walk or drive by a homeless person?
Do you ever wonder why or how they ended up homeless?
If a homeless person asks you for a handout, do you give them something? Or do you just walk by?
I know this person who told me that when a homeless person asks her for a handout, she tells them to get a job. If she doesn't want to give, it would seem far more polite to simply not say anything and keep walking.
This same person takes handouts from her church and from other homeless charities, and yet she lives a life of luxury.
Who would take from those who really do need???? When a person takes when they are not in need, they are taking from someone who really truly needs assistance.
Sometimes people feel bad but ignore a homeless person who is asking for handouts because they themselves are struggling. There are many people who may not have spare change to share, and who feel terrible when they have no choice but to rush by a homeless person.
For those of you who may find yourself familiar with this, perhaps there are other ways to help. How about information. Research legitimate (local) places that help the homeless in some way, hand-write these places and phone numbers on paper, and give it out when a homeless person asks for a handout.
Not all are truly in need, be aware of who you give to and play it safe. Be cautious about your surroundings.
